Types of Face Bricks

Facing bricks come in various designs, ranging from traditional to modern styles, with different colours and textures. They are widely used for exterior walls in the UK, especially in residential construction, chosen for their aesthetic qualities and weather resistance.

Extruded Bricks: Also known as wirecut bricks, these are produced using an extrusion process that creates a consistent size and shape, resulting in a contemporary look. They come in styles such as smooth, drag, rolled, honed, or glazed.

Soft Mud Bricks: Also called stock bricks, these offer a traditional or reclaimed look with a softer, warmer aesthetic. They may feature a "frog" indentation and can be made using water instead of sand, creating a textured surface.

Engineering Bricks: Designed for extreme conditions, these bricks have high compressive strength and low water absorption, making them suitable for applications requiring strength and resistance to frost and water.

Common Bricks: Made from a mixture of cement and aggregates, these bricks are pressed into molds and can be coloured to resemble traditional clay bricks. They are now manufactured to meet standards for sizing, compressive strength, and cold resistance.

Red Facing Bricks: Traditional red bricks that come in a standard size of 215x100 and are available in sand-faced or stock textures. They are popular for residential construction, especially in northern England.

Yellow Facing Bricks: These bricks range from white to cream and yellow to red and brown, with the colour often Indigenous to the area. For example, yellow bricks are common around Cambridgeshire and London.

Stock Facing Bricks: Made from high-quality concrete, these bricks have a rough, traditional appearance similar to waterstruck or soft mud bricks. They offer dimensional accuracy and ease of construction, adding a premium quality to projects.
