Corrugated Fixings Guidance
In order to securely fasten metal roof sheets to purlins, it is crucial to use appropriate fixings capable of withstanding wind pressures and changing weather conditions. The specific type of fixing required depends on the roofing profile and the purlin type (light steel, heavy steel, or timber). We highly recommend using self-drilling TEK screws, designed with a 5/16th hex head, as they offer exceptional performance.
Our provided screws feature a specialised drill point that allows them to penetrate both the steel sheeting and the purlin, creating a secure connection. Additionally, beneath the screw head, there is a 19mm stainless steel washer equipped with a neoprene-bonded pad. This pad compresses to form a seal with the roof sheet, ensuring a tight fit.
When installing the screws, the approach varies depending on the type of sheeting being used. For sheeting with a crest profile, the screws can be installed directly into the crest. However, if you are installing 13/3 corrugated sheeting, it is advisable to use longer screws and baz washers. Rest assured that all the screws we provide are self-drilling TEK screws. However, if you prefer, you can center punch an indentation on the metal sheet at the desired installation point. This method can help maintain the screw's alignment during drilling.
Remember – do not overtighten or under-tighten your screws as this can affect the performance of the washer and prevent it from sealing correctly.
What Screws Should I Use For My Sheets?
Important: Always evenly space your screw fixings across roofing sheets. Do not over-tighten or under-tighten your screws as this can affect the performance of the washer and prevent it from sealing correctly.
32/1000 sheets - Use 22mm stitching screws to fix flashings/sheets to other sheets. We recommend using TF32-S19 screws to fix the sheets on to purlins.
34/1000 sheets - Again, use 22mm stitching screws to fix flashings/sheets to other sheets. We recommend using TF32-S19 screws to fix the sheets on to purlins. Screws should be no more than 400mm apart when securing the flashing
13/3 sheets - Use 65mm BAZ TEK Screws which are self-drilling and self-sealing. When fixing your 13/3 corrugated sheeting, it's imperative they are fixed at the crest point. Colour caps can be used to match or contrast with the roof sheeting you are using. This is an effective way of hiding the silver screws from view. Stitcher screws at 22mm are advised for securing flashings in place
41/1000 sheets - We recommend using 22mm TF32-S19 screws which are self-drilling and self-sealing. Colour caps can be used to match or contrast with the roof sheeting you are using. Purlin spaces for tile sheets need to be 600mm apart.
Ridge Caps - Should be fixed using self-drilling TEK-type stitching screws. Each ridge should be overlapped by a minimum of 200mm.
For Flashings - The 22mm stitcher screws are advised for securing flashings in place. Screws should be no more than 400mm apart when securing the flashing.
