The Freefoam 10mm Pre-Vented uPVC Soffit Board is designed for roofers and builders who need to finish the underside of the eaves while also providing continuous roofline ventilation. Ventilation slots are already formed into the board, so there is no need to cut individual circular vents into a standard solid soffit.
Supplied in 5 metre lengths and available in a wide choice of widths, the board combines the clean appearance of a solid soffit with built-in airflow. It is particularly useful on replacement rooflines and new-build eaves where ventilation is required to help reduce the risk of moisture becoming trapped within the roof space.

What Does Pre-Vented Soffit Actually Do?
The soffit closes the underside of the roof overhang between the fascia and the external wall. On a ventilated roofline, that area also needs to allow the required airflow into the roof space.
Freefoam's Pre-Vented General Purpose Board combines both jobs in one product. The solid section finishes and protects the underside of the eaves, while the integrated ventilation slots create an airflow path along the roof edge.

How Is Vented Soffit Installed?
The board is fitted horizontally beneath the eaves between the fascia and the rear soffit support or external wall. It should be fixed to suitable, securely installed timber bearers or battens rather than left unsupported.

Measure the soffit depth
Measure from the rear support position to the fascia before selecting the board width. -
Prepare adequate support
Make sure the soffit bearers are sound, straight and positioned correctly before installation. -
Keep the ventilation slots clear
Do not cover or obstruct the vented section with trims, insulation or other materials. -
Use compatible soffit trims
Appropriate wall, starter, joint and corner trims help support exposed edges and produce a tidy finish. -
Allow for thermal movement
uPVC naturally expands and contracts, so follow Freefoam guidance for fixing centres, joints and expansion allowances.
Choosing the Correct Width
The width refers to the overall depth of the soffit board. Measure the actual roof overhang rather than assuming a standard size, particularly on refurbishment work where dimensions can vary along an older property.
Narrower boards suit compact eaves, while 300mm and wider options are useful for deeper soffits, larger overhangs and box-end construction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to add separate soffit vents?
The board already contains ventilation slots, so separate individual vents are not normally required where this board provides the ventilation specified for the roof design.
Is this different from normal Freefoam General Purpose Board?
Yes. Standard GPB is solid and non-vented. This version has the ventilation incorporated into the board.
Can I use it on a roof refurbishment?
Yes. It is suitable for appropriate replacement roofline work as well as new-build applications.
Can the 5m board be cut down?
Yes. It can be cut on site to suit the roofline, but take care not to unnecessarily remove or obstruct the ventilation area.
Do all colours come in every width?
No. White has the widest size availability, while Anthracite Grey Foil, Black Ash, Light Oak and Rosewood are supplied in selected widths.
What if I need more ventilation?
Freefoam also produces Double-Vented General Purpose Board for roof constructions requiring a different ventilation provision. The correct specification should be determined by the roof design and applicable ventilation requirements.
