The HardiePlank External Corner Trim is designed to create a neat, professional finish where Hardie® Plank cladding meets at external building corners, door openings, window reveals and vertical transitions.
Manufactured from coated aluminium, it gives installers a strong, colour-matched corner profile that protects exposed edges while keeping the finished cladding line sharp and consistent.
How HardiePlank External Corner Trims Are Used

Installed vertically at external corners
These trims are fitted upright on the outside corners of the building before the cladding boards are installed. The Hardie guide states that MetalTrim™ corner profiles must only be installed vertically.

Used with Hardie® Plank Lap and VL systems
Suitable for HardiePlank lap cladding and Hardie VL Plank systems, making them a practical trim option for a wide range of fibre cement cladding projects.

Creates a clean corner transition
The trim forms a tidy junction between two cladding elevations, helping hide cut board edges and giving the project a more precise, commercial-quality finish.

Fitted before the cladding boards
The trim must be positioned correctly before boards are fixed, as it cannot be adjusted once the Hardie® Plank weatherboards are installed.

Held in place with stainless steel nails
Installers can fix the trim at the top, middle and bottom to hold it in position. The cladding fixings then pass through the metal wing of the trim, fully securing it as the boards are fitted.

Allows a 1mm board gap at corners
Hardie installation details show a 1mm gap where boards meet the external metal corner profile, helping achieve the correct finished detail.

Used around window and door reveals
The trim can also be used vertically at window and door openings to transition from the main cladded face into the reveal. For window reveal use, the guide notes that a minimum 38mm deep timber batten should be used to allow for the length of the metal wing.

Oversails the batten by 10mm
The trim should oversail the bottom and top edge of the timber batten by 10mm. This helps accommodate the drip edge of the first and last boards so the trim and cladding finish level.

Cut to suit on site
The aluminium trim can be cut with a suitable saw or shears. Cuts should be clean, straight and made carefully to avoid damaging the coated finish.

Colour matched for a consistent facade
Available in colour-matched finishes to coordinate with HardiePlank cladding boards, helping create a seamless exterior across corners, reveals and elevations.
Important Installation Notes
- Install vertically only.
- Fit before cladding boards are installed.
- Use stainless steel nails to initially hold the trim.
- Remove the protective plastic film immediately after installation.
- Wear gloves when cutting the trims.
- Ensure joined trim lengths are correctly aligned before fixing.
- Consider thermal expansion in areas with strong sun exposure.
