Description
The James Hardie HardiePlank Internal Corner Trim is a purpose-made aluminium profile used to form neat internal corner details on Hardie® fibre cement cladding installations. Designed for use with both the Hardie® Plank Lap system and Hardie® VL Plank system, this trim creates a tidy, durable junction wherever two cladded walls meet internally.
It is also commonly used around window and door reveals where the cladding transitions from the main face of the building into recessed openings. The result is a much cleaner and more professional finish compared to relying on sealants or exposed cut board edges.
Manufactured from coated aluminium and colour matched to HardiePlank cladding boards, these trims help maintain a consistent appearance across the full facade while improving weather protection and installation accuracy.
What Internal Corner Trims Actually Do
Internal corner trims are installed vertically into recessed building corners before the cladding boards are fitted. Once installed, the edges of the HardiePlank boards terminate neatly into the trim on both sides, creating a straight and uniform internal corner detail.
Rather than leaving exposed board edges visible, the trim conceals cut ends and creates a controlled expansion gap between the cladding and the corner detail.
These trims are especially useful on:
- Internal building corners
- Window reveals
- Door reveals
- Recessed elevations
- Cladding return details
- Vertical transition points between façade sections.
How HardiePlank Internal Corner Trims Are Installed
-
Installed before any cladding boards are fitted
The trim must always be positioned first, before the HardiePlank boards are installed. Once the cladding is fixed, the trim cannot be adjusted afterwards.
-
Fixed vertically only
Internal corner trims are designed for upright installation along the full height of the corner or reveal.
-
Positioned onto the timber batten framework
The trim is fixed directly onto the cladding support battens, typically using stainless steel fixings to temporarily hold it in place while the boards are installed.
-
Cladding boards are then fitted into the trim
As each HardiePlank board is installed, the cut board edge terminates neatly into the internal corner profile, creating a clean shadow line and consistent gap detail.
-
Allows for movement and drainage
The trim detail helps maintain proper spacing around the cladding system while supporting the ventilated rainscreen construction used within the HardiePlank installation method. The Hardie system requires a minimum 20mm ventilation cavity behind the cladding and airflow openings at the top and bottom of the façade.
-
Suitable for both Lap and VL cladding systems
Can be used with traditional overlapped Hardie® Plank boards as well as the interlocking Hardie® VL Plank system.
Why Installers Use Aluminium Corner Trims
-
Creates sharper finished corners
Gives the installation a much cleaner appearance compared to sealant-only finishing methods. -
Protects exposed board edges
Helps shield cut edges at vulnerable corner areas. -
Faster and more consistent installation
Makes it easier to achieve straight, repeatable corner lines across large elevations. -
Improves overall facade presentation
Particularly important on commercial projects, new builds, garden rooms, modular buildings and high-spec residential work. -
Colour matched to HardiePlank boards
Helps maintain a coordinated and professional facade finish.
