Create a neat, colour-matched finish at the outside corners of a HardiePlank VL Click cladding installation with the James Hardie HardiePlank VL 2-Part External Corner Trim.
Designed specifically for the HardiePlank VL interlocking cladding system, this 3m aluminium profile covers and protects the cut ends of the VL cladding boards where two clad elevations meet at an external corner. It creates a straight, consistent corner detail while concealing the board edges and corner fixings for a clean finished appearance.
What is the 2-Part External Corner Trim used for?
This trim is used on external building corners – for example, where the HardiePlank VL cladding on the front elevation meets the cladding running around the side of the property.
Without a finishing profile, the cut ends of the boards would remain visible at the corner. The 2-Part External Corner Trim covers these ends and forms a purpose-made, colour-matched corner detail.
It is designed specifically around the dimensions and installation method of 11mm HardiePlank VL Click fibre cement cladding and should not be confused with external corner profiles intended for standard overlapping HardiePlank Lap weatherboards or other manufacturers' click cladding systems.
How does the 2-part trim work?
As the name suggests, the corner profile consists of two separate sections:
1. Inner corner section
The inner section is positioned over the completed HardiePlank VL cladding at the external corner and mechanically secured using suitable Hardie fixings.
2. Colour-matched outer section
Once the inner section has been secured, the finished outer corner section simply clicks into the inner profile. This covers the fixings and cut edges of the boards, leaving a neat, continuous external corner.
James Hardie's installation guidance also recommends a fixing through the outer profile near the top of the trim to keep the finished section correctly aligned.

Important – where is this trim used?
This profile is primarily an external corner trim.
It is not the standard trim for finishing window reveals. HardiePlank VL has a separate purpose-made Window Reveal Trim for detailing the vertical sides of window and door openings, along with a Window Head & Vertical Starter Trim for other VL details.
Using the correct HardiePlank VL accessory for each junction helps ensure the different trims work properly with the VL tongue-and-groove cladding system.
