The HardiePlank VL J Profile is a purpose-made finishing trim for the HardiePlank VL Click / interlocking fibre cement cladding system.

Rather than being used in just one location, the J Profile is a finishing profile designed to create a neat termination to HardiePlank VL boards at selected internal corners, window sill details and the top of vertically installed cladding.

Its shaped profile receives and conceals the edge of the HardiePlank VL board, helping to cover cut board ends and create a clean, consistent finish while allowing the required ventilation detailing to be maintained.

Where is the HardiePlank VL J Profile used?

Internal corners

For horizontally installed HardiePlank VL, the J Profile can be used as an alternative internal-corner detail. The cut end of the VL board finishes neatly into the profile, giving the junction between two walls a clean, defined appearance.

Below window sills

The J Profile is also used in James Hardie's horizontal VL window detail beneath the window sill. It provides a neat finish to the upper edge of the cladding while the required ventilation path beneath the sill is maintained.

This is important because HardiePlank VL is installed as a ventilated rainscreen system – the trim should not be positioned in a way that blocks the ventilation cavity.

Top of vertical HardiePlank VL cladding

When HardiePlank VL boards are installed vertically, the J Profile can be used as the finishing detail between the top of the boards and the soffit.

James Hardie's installation guidance requires the profile to be positioned to maintain ventilation at the top of the façade, while the cut board ends finish neatly inside the profile.

Why use the genuine HardiePlank VL J Profile?

The profile is designed specifically around the 11mm HardiePlank VL interlocking board system, providing a much neater termination than leaving a cut board edge exposed.

It also keeps the finishing details consistent with the rest of the HardiePlank VL system, rather than mixing trims designed for other fibre cement or click-cladding products.

Important Compatibility Information

This J Profile is designed specifically for James Hardie HardiePlank VL.

It should not be confused with trims intended for traditional overlapping HardiePlank Lap weatherboards or third-party click-cladding systems.

For window installations, please also note that the J Profile is not the main vertical window reveal trim. HardiePlank VL has a separate purpose-made Window Reveal Trim for the sides of window and door openings and a separate Window Head & Vertical Starter Trim for other details.
