Zinc Guttering

Short, practical answer:
For zinc guttering systems like Zambelli, fascia brackets should really be spaced out at a max. of 1 metre (around 3.3 ft) on straight runs. In any areas with rainfall that is heavy, snow load is high, or gutter runs are long, closer spacing is sensible.

That’s the baseline. The details below are what actually make the system perform properly.

On straight runs, spacing brackets at up to 1 metre apart provides enough support for the weight of water without overcomplicating the install.

Zinc is rigid, but water is heavy, and wider spacing increases the risk of subtle sagging over time.

In high-rainfall or snow-prone areas, reducing the spacing to around 600–450mm (24–18 inches) adds extra security.

This isn’t about the gutter “failing” — it’s about keeping the line true and preventing low spots where water and debris can sit.

Brackets should always be positioned close to stress points. As a rule of thumb, place brackets around 100–150mm (4–6 inches) from:

  • internal and external angles

  • outlets

  • stop ends

These areas carry more load and movement, so tighter support helps joints stay aligned and watertight.

Each zinc fascia bracket should be fixed with two screws, not one. This prevents rotation and keeps the gutter locked in position, especially as temperatures change and the metal expands and contracts.

Finally, bracket spacing only works if the fall is set correctly. Even perfectly spaced brackets won’t help if the gutter is installed dead level. A gentle, consistent pitch towards the outlet ensures water drains cleanly and the system stays drier between rain.

In short:

  • Up to 1m spacing on straight runs

  • Closer spacing in heavy weather areas

  • Extra brackets near outlets, angles and ends

  • Two fixings per bracket

  • Always install with a proper fall

Get those right, and a zinc gutter system will stay straight, drain properly, and avoid the slow problems that come from under-supported runs.
